Party hosts not liable for drunk guests: SCC

In the case of Zoe Childs, an Ottawa-area woman who was left a paraplegic when a drunk driver smashed into the car she was riding in early on Jan. 1, 1999, the Supreme Court of Canada unanimously ruled that social hosts -- private citizens – were not bound by the same "duty of care'' as commercial establishments.
